Villa Entre Sueños, whose name is Spanish for Villa Between Dreams, was built for entertaining a large family in San Miguel de Allende, a city in Mexico’s central highlands with a booming luxury real estate market.
Perched high on a hill on a gated cul-de-sac, the residence, which was built in 1998 and remodeled and expanded in 2003, offers commanding vistas of the city.
“The house is an architectural jewel,”” said Carolina Echeverría of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Colonial Homes San Miguel, who listed the property in September 2021. “It has high-end materials and was designed by Manual Barbosa, a very famous architect from the city.””
The seller, entrepreneur/businessman Goerdt Abel, said that he and his wife, Maria, who died two years ago, “custom built this estate to accommodate our family. We also wanted to support the community and provide a location for entertaining and hosting community events.””
Mr. Abel, who is in his 70s, noted that the compound played host to a number of local NGOs over the last two decades.
The 9,967-square-foot villa has four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, one half bathroom and two garages. There’s another bathroom at the back of the pool and another half bathroom off the terrace. There also is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom detached guest house near the front of the property, which is a little over an acre.
The residence has a living room with a fireplace, a dining room, a roofed terrace, a studio/library with glass doors that open to an intimate terrace with a dining table and bar, and a covered fitness area with equipment and weights.
The grounds, which the agency described as a “fairytale garden that turns into a botanical sanctuary that shelters myriad endemic species,”” feature a swimming pool with a solar heating system for year-round use, a children’s playground with a natural slide and walking paths.
A covered terrace for entertaining 20 to 25 people has a kitchen equipped with a pizza oven, a grill station, a dishwasher and a plate-warming oven. A photovoltaic system provides enough electricity to run the villa and its electric car-charging station. There are two cement water tanks-one for drinking water and one for watering the garden.
San Miguel de Allende, whose historic old section is a World Heritage Site, is 170 miles from Mexico City. The city’s 150,000 population includes 23,000 homeowners from abroad.
The villa is close to Parque Juarez and El Jardin, the city’s main plaza, and is a short walk from the city’s restaurants, art galleries, luxury boutiques and high-end hotels.
